What've we been getting up to?
Health and Safety Becomes a Big Priority!
Here at Cornwall Timber Build we really do care about the health and safety of all our employees. Therefore, we have taken a large step into training our very own health and safety enthusiast and First Aider, Glynnis Ahearn! A big thanks to all those involved in allowing us to make this important step in assuring the safety of our employees.
Our Second Unit Opens!
We are please to announce the opening of our second unit in Pensilva. We are certain this will help us complete projects more efficiently than ever before! A large thanks to all those who helped.
Design Team Grows Again!
Our family at Cornwall Timber Build grows again! We would like to welcome Jon Sargent to the design team. He previously worked in the production team and is sure to be a great asset to our future builds!
More New Homes and Bespoke Challenges!
It has certainly not slowed down for us in February.
We are scheduling for a development at Wheel Harmony in Camborne, and for a further 50 homes at St Columb.
Large developments are not our only focus. We still enjoy and find time for special and unique bespoke projects like this 6 bed home at Teignmouth. The cliff side location overlooking Teignmouth Estuary features magnificent views but has presented design challenges for our team. Exposure to high winds at this location requires specific attention to structural wind loading throughout the frame. But it’s nothing we can’t handle, we enjoy the challenge!
Every year the Cornwall Timber Build team get on board to raise money for charity whilst experimenting with a new look.
Movember is probably our favourite fund raising event, as you can see our office and manufacturing team have put in a fantastic effort to create this impressive display of top lip action!
All of the money is now in so we are pleased to announce that the £287 we raised is on its way to the Movember foundation.
Storming the New Year!
The New Year at Cornwall Timber Build is swiftly gaining momentum
Orders are in for 137 new homes across 4 large sites in Cornwall at Shortlanesend, Portreath, Wadebridge and Marldon. And we have already begun the first phase of another large site at Dolcoath where we anticipate supplying the remainder of that site of 187 homes over the course of the coming year.
We are really proud of the fantastic working relationship we have developed with these leading house builders, and look forward to keep being asked back again and again!
Christmas is coming!
This year we will be closing Head Office at midday on Wednesday 23rd December and will return on Monday 4th January 2016.
Wishing all of our customers and suppliers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from us all at Cornwall Timber Build.
Congratulations to Company Director Stuart Dewey for winning the AJW Group Annual Golf Tournament of 2015!
This years 4 day event hosted in sunny Spain featured golf courses around Puerto Banus and Marbella.
Relative newcomer Stuart Dewey, the youngest of the bunch, out trumped 14 fellow competitors to take the coveted trophy from last year's winner.
Stu's winning grin looks set to outlive his tan!

Firmly focused on success we hit the ground running with the best people in key positions and now enjoy well forged working relationships with some of the best companies around.
Check out our latest piece of kit the impressive MT1735 Telehandler (just our little present to ourselves!)
The Drive to Succeed
Well done Chris for completing the London Marathon!
Our affable operations administrator was typically understated when telling me about his London Marathon experience...
" It was all a bit touch and go as to wether I would be fit enough for the Marathon. My training was being impeded by a knee injury that would flare up at around the 16 mile mark. However I was determined and not competing was never going to be an option. On the day it was the crowd and the sheer occasion that got me through those last 10 miles of agony. I did manage to acheive my goal which was to run the whole way without stopping or walking so I'm really happy with that."
It just goes to show that drive, determination and a positive attitude really is a winning formula.
London Marathon 2015: Celebrate The Best
On Saturday 26th April our very own Chris Kirk will be heading up to London to take part in the worlds greatest marathon.
This is his first attempt at a marathon... a gruelling 26.2 miles of sheer determination starting in Greenwich and taking in many of Londons sights along the way.
When Chris began his training 5 months ago he had been unable to run a mile without stopping which shows this personal challenge in its true perspective.
Chris has put in a massive effort and some serious training to hopefully get him to that finish line in The Mall.
And we are behind him every step of the way.
Get On Chris and good luck!
Galliford Try Again
So we are going to be busy again with the next Galliford Try site of 49 homes at Heartlands in Redruth.
The development is next to Cornwall's historic mining centre, Heartlands which embraces the wonderful heritage of the local area. This unique blend of culture, heritage and the local environment will be complemented in the design style of the homes which will have one of the highest sustainable build ratings.
Thumbs up from Gynn Construction
We have been given the thumbs up by Gynn Construction on another premium project.
4 stunning bespoke dwellings will take pride of place enjoying panaoramic views over Constantine Bay.
Earmarked for a Bright Future
Contracts Manager Position: Our forward thinking Company Director Stuart Dewey recognised some untapped potential in our workforce.
Jon Sargeant came to us with 10 years of experience in the timber frame industry with time served as a site worker, timber frame erector and most recently as a timber frame manufacturer. With 12 months service at Cornwall Timber Build Jon is being prepared to step into the role of Contracts Manager as it becomes available.
" Jon stood out to me as a bit of an unsung hero around the unit. He is already quietly confident with plenty of
practical experience under his belt but he has still retained that willingness to learn which is something I look
for in all of my potential managers. Crucially in such a fast growing company I must ensure that by the time
we need a contracts manager we have someone ready to take that on and with plenty of support I know that
Jon is the man for the job.
By really listening to my employees, finding out what motivates them and helping them to succeed in this I am
rewarded with a workforce that feels invested in the success of the company."
Jon is already working hard in preparation for the role.
" It has been deeply rewarding to have my potential recognised by my current employers. There is such a positive
vibe here, even when challenges arise. It makes you feel like any achievement is possible so I am really looking
forward to my future here."
New for this year
Skills recruitment and training. That's our theme for January.
Our Production Manager Mick has been the driving force in swiftly getting our new manufacturing unit to full output. Mick brings with him over 8 years of experience in the industry.
Until recently our recruitment strategy has been firmly focused on bringing the right skilled personnel into key positions.
Now with this skill already in place we can turn our future attention to creating opportunities where training will be provided.
Chris Kirk is the latest addition to our team. Chris will be fulfilling the role of trainee to Operations Manager Peter Kirk. Under the guidance of Peter he will receive on the job training leaving him perfectly placed to rise to a more senior role as the company continues to expand.
Now we will turn our attention to "growing our own", with some new apprenticeships planned for this and next year!
Celebrating the Festive Period!
With Christmas nearly here we have made time to get into the festive spirit and decorate our tree!
We will be closing for a few days over the holidays with our last working day being Tuesday 23rd December but we will back and suitably refreshed on Monday 5th January 2015.
In the meantime we would like to wish all of our customers and suppliers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Galliford Try chooses Cornwall Timber Build Again
We were already well ahead of programme at the Galliford Try South Trelawney build prompting them to put more business our way!
This contract is for 13 three storey town houses in Newton Abbott.
We highly value all of our repaet cutomers whilst continuing to expand our client base.
Manufacturing joins us at Pensilva
The new unit is complete and we have been joined by the manufacturing team in Pensilva bringing the whole operation together on one site.
Moving day went without a hitch thanks in no small part to meticulous planning by our Production Manager Mick and some enthusiastic rolling up of sleeves on the day by all concerned.
We can now focus on expanding our operation and with this purpose designed space at our disposal there really is nothing to hold us back.
Abode chooses Cornwall Timber Build again
We have been selected by Abode to fulfill their Timber Frame requirement for 14 four storey luxury apartments in Torquay.
This quality development consists of high specification apartments with views looking out to the bay.
We are delighted to be picking up repeat business from quality customers.
We would like to thank everyone who attended and supported our fundraising Coffee Morning for Macmillan. We managed to exceed our target and raised £279.23 on the day through donations and cake sales!
We really pushed the boat out with the decoration of the offices and put on a splendid display of home baked treats so we were delighted to see everyone enjoying themselves and getting tucked in.
It was great to have representatives from Linden Homes, Minster and Jewsons as our special guests, thanks also for their generous donations
Join us for Coffee and Cake in aid of Macmillan!
On Friday October 24th between 12:00 and 2:00 we are having a cake and coffee event in support of Macmillan. We were asked to get involved by event host and organiser Mads Butler at A J Wilson & Co
There will be competitions, cake, tea and coffee and the opportunity to be shown around our new offices and meet members of the team. To ensure we have enough cake for everyone please ring Julie in the office to let us know you would like to attend.
We look forward to your support of this very worthy charity!
Linden Homes chooses Cornwall Timber Build
Cornwall Timber build is delighted to have been selected by Linden Homes for the supply and fit of Timber frames on a landmark Plymouth development.
Beechfield Grove will be a beautiful collection of 12 exclusive 4 bedroom homes in a sought after area of Plymouth located between Hartley, Mannamead and Peverell. The site is in one of the most desirable areas of Plymouth and is surrounded by high quality housing with views across Plymouth and down to Plymouth Sound.
Linden Homes awarded Cornwall Timber Build this prestigious contract in part because we are able to demonstrate that we have strict quality control processes in place at every step of the manufacture process to ensure that our frames will always exceed the rigid standard set by the NHBC.
Welcoming our new Operations Manager
In line with our continued expansion Cornwall Timber Build is really excited to be joined this month by Peter Kirk in the newly created role of Operations Manager. This pivotal role will encompass all aspects of Timber Frame Design and Logistics.
The successful recruitment of Peter to this position is considered something of a coup by company director Stuart Dewey
“It has been one of my main objectives from the start to bring all of the design In-House. Peter first came to my attention as a Free Lance Designer on some of our earlier projects. It quickly became clear to me that he would be the right man for this job so I made it my mission to do all that I could to tempt Peter away from free-lancing and convince him into joining us exclusively.”
With an impressive 13 year track record of time served in this industry Peter Kirk certainly knows his stuff.
“When Stuart approached me with the suggestion of becoming more involved with the company I was immediately interested. There is great potential in this company and I am really looking forward to coming on board.”
As we continue to cement relationships with the Industry key players in the South West we are delighted to have won the contract to provide Galliford Try with Timber Frames for 47 units at South Trelawney Plymouth.
They are keen to eradicate block work choosing instead to go for an external render carrier board system.
Building on Success
We are making good headway with the Pensilva Unit. In no time at all we will be in there and getting ready to fit it out with all the latest equipment.
If there is one thing we are good at it's turning vision into reality.
And our excitement to get in there only increases with each new contract we win!
The Admin Team Get a New Home
Our admin team is now housed in the new Cornwall Timber Build Head Office adjacent to the manufacturing unit in Pensilva.
The decision to move the admin team to Pensilva ahead of the manufacturing made perfect sense.
From here we are able to coordinate everything with ease and, well to be honest the lure of swanky new offices was irresistible!
Our New Purpose Built Premises
Due to continued growth and success we are very excited that this year we will be moving into our new 'state of the art' purpose built manufacturing unit based at Pensilva Industrial Park.
This fantastic new complex will house all of the latest machinery, provide a superb working space specific to our exact requirements and will house our growing admin team in new offices. From this location we look forward to continuing our programme of recruitment from the high standard of local skill.
Work is currently underway clearing the site.
Watch this space for more updates!
We have added a brand new page to the website!
Our Portfolio page gives us the opportunity to showcase some of our most interesting projects and by adding plenty of photographs we can hopefully bring a project to life and better illustrate what we are all about.
We will regularly update our Portfolio so it is well worth keep coming back to.
